We were recently approached by Kerry Heathcote a wedding planner based in Bath who had come up with a very unique idea.... to raffle a wedding. Kerry is planning on raising funds for The Royal United Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and has put together an amazing package covering every detail of a wedding.

Here's a lovely new venue we have worked at recently: Its called the Lifford Hall and is in the beautiful Cotswold village of Broadway in Worcestershire, famous for its place in the Arts and Crafts movement and for the Broadway Arts Festival.

We started 2010 by engaging local PR firm Walton PR and have noticed a real increase in the number of opportunities coming our way. We're on a bit of a roll with our local connections which are growing steadily and we have some really intersting collaborations and projects firming up for 2011.

Links with Broadway's finest - Russells of Broadway and Broadway florist, talks with the Cheltenham Jazz Festival (fingers crossed!) and a second booking with the Cheltenham Ladies' College are all part of the picture for this year.

We're in talks with local venues about long term Bedouin Village installations, taking part in open days and wedding fayres, and talking with local marquee companies about working more closely together moving forwards.

Whilst we are (genuinely!) prepared to travel the UK with Oasis the local work is really valuable to get the balance right. Doing a bit of local work alongside the more distant destinations keeps our crew fresh and strengthens our roots as a business. There's nothing like bread and butter on your doorstep!

We've had the pleasure of providing a range of services to two members of the Maybourne Hotel Group so far this year - The Berkeley and Claridges - and kicked off 2011 with an event in the Dorchester just to make the point... As you might expect the operational side of venues like this ticks like clockwork which we love because it suits our style!

Ok so we're finally over the snow... but it certainly made an impact on schedules industry-wide over December and January. 7876 films made this film for Simply Events during the installation of an immaculate ROCOCO party in mid-December.

This event was memorable for the fantastic commitment from all the suppliers and for the perfect finish guaranteed by Simply Events' attention to detail. The film wins December's prize for it's simple, beautiful filming and editing portraying one of our 300 events of 2010 in great style.

How can we resist? CIRQUE at Passenger Shed in Bristol stole the prize for November.

Oasis has worked in partnership with Hype Agency for three years now to create unique and stunning transformation at this venue for a month of parties of the Christmas season. This year a complete change from the previous one: a circus complete with ceiling and wall drapes. A seasonal adult playground, a great success, and some fabulous pics.

The full story from the start of Oasis by Dany's mother Biny 15 years ago to the present day was accurately reported by Lucy Parford. Two years ago Oasis created a Moroccan Kasbah for the summer ball committee at St Piran's School, Maidenhead. For June 2010 Rococo transformed the same 15m wide x 30m sports hall into a Baroque Ball for 230 guests which features in the forthcoming edition of Berkshire Life. Oasis provided Saffron for one of our earliest marquee interior clients, Alison Mott in 2004, and Oasis Rococo for her son's wedding in Hertfordshire in May 2010 - due to feature in Your Herts and Beds Wedding magazine.

Oasis are updating their Bedouin tents for the 2010 summer season. The company, whose beautiful and authentic tents are sourced from the Middle East , have introduced a new range of Indigo tents. Following Middle Eastern tradition where Indigo has been used as a natural dyestuff for thousands of years, they have commissioned their new range of tents in striking Indigo canvas.

Oasis launch a new look

Oasis Specialist Tent Hire has created unique spaces for parties and events over the last 14 years and has become well known for spectacular, out of the ordinary interiors; in particular their Middle Eastern look and Bedouin Tents. The family-run business, with husband and wife team Mark and Dany Fremantle at the helm scooped the much coveted Award for Excellence in Customer Service from the Event Hire Association last year. 2010 sees the launch of a glamorous new look for a new decade – ROCOCO.

Building on our previous experience of dressing and decorating venues, Lindsay Gale Creative Communications used Oasis to provide a Bedouin Village inside a ballroom to superb effect.
Co-operation between Oasis and a very helpful production team produced a technically slick setting. This photo is a winner because it shows the ballroom enclosing our chill-out tents inside.

We're ready to provide this service for future clients - its especially useful if you need to create a discrete area in an otherwise cavernous ballroom!

Hype Party planning used Oasis to wallpaper this beautiful, huge venue in a vintage print for their Christmas events - see the full story below.

The new plum and gold print was used to full effect for a Victorian style over christmas, and looked stunning with giant baubles and a Helter Skelter to suit the giant space.

We installed this fabric to create a "wallpaper effect" for Hype Party Planning's series of Christmas parties in December 2009 at the Passenger Shed in Bristol.
The Helter Skelter and the enormous baubles are not ours, but you can now choose this new lining to have in your marquee or other venue.

We erected one of our tents inside the Celtic Manor hotel near Cardiff. It was for an event for Samsung put together by the Rede2 agency. They wanted to create the feel of a festival within a large interior space.

Using a simple frame and central poles we created an authentic feel for their event. We can now offer our tents inside buildings, tents in hotels (a chill out area for a wedding or break-out area for a meeting), tents in exhibition halls (e.g. a tented exhibition stand).

The Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo Business Awards have shortlisted Oasis Specialist Tent Hire for the Customer Care and Service Award. More than 320 businesses from across the county have entered the awards which are now in their 12th year.

This is the second time we have been in the running for such an award, having won the Hire Association Europe (the HAE's) award for Excellence in Customer Care earlier this year.

We provided a chill-out tent, other chill-out furniture for the Orangery and props and accessories (including Moroccan lanterns) for a wedding at Kiddington Hall in Oxfordshire.

Oasis provides decor, furniture and beautiful temporary structures for all sorts of weddings.

Against all my expectations, last night we won the Hire Association Europe (the HAE's) award for Excellence in Customer Care 2009.

We are very, very grateful to our team (in both parts of the business - account management and delivery): this fantastic achievement is a reflection of all the things they do every day to bring Oasis the recognition it has received.

Hire Association Europe (HAE) is the leading trade association for hire and rental companies in the UK and Ireland: http://www.eha.org.uk/. This is a huge feather in our cap - especially as we're up against some of the big names in the hire industry: HSS hire and A-Plant.

Hilary Benn and the Rural Experience

Oasis is a rural business located on the edge of the Cotswolds on the Oxfordshire-Gloucestershire border.

We have just had a visit here in Moreton-in-Marsh from Hilary Benn MP, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as part of the Rural Experience programme run by the Commission for Rurual Communities.
The Rural Experience is an initiative to inspire senior people from government, public and private sector organisations and the voluntary sector to make a positive contribution to rural communities. They came to talk to Oasis to hear about our experience of using broadband in this rural area.
The results of the visit will be incorporated into the governments Digital Inclusion Action Plan which is designed to deliver their Universal Service Agreement by 2012 and a forthcoming CRC report to the Prime Minister and Lord Carter, the minister for Communications, Technology and Broadcasting, on digital inclusion in rural areas.

Bucking Camel

The clever people at funtime hire have found a way of using the 'bucking' bit of their 'bucking bronco' by adding a camel 'hat' onto it!
Its not as authentic as the real thing and looks a lot less comfortable.

The Event Hire Association (EHA) is an association dedicated to event hire companies. The EHA moves together as one with HAE to work with hire companies and to both suppliers and manufacturers for the hire industry as a whole: together members of the EHA demonstrate true commitment to the hire industry and can make real change. The objective of the EHA is to be the leading trade association providing support, protection and development and promotion to the event hire sector.

EHA works for its members within government circles and beyond, promoting and protecting the interests of all operators in the event hire industry - from the largest to the smallest. It provides members with a wide range of benefits and services designed to protect, develop and support their business: it keeps them informed of industry issues; up-to-date with legislation; helps them to grow their business; and provides a wide range of training, specialised insurance schemes and safety information.

A view on 2009 – Maintaining the “wow” and minimising the “ouch”

2009 should be a year of opportunity for event organisers. Given the weak pound and the state of the economy, it’s likely that people will spend more time in the UK over the summer season. Indeed for tourism and outdoor events, 2009 should be a good year.

Something that we have noticed in our small business is the number of people organising weddings and parties for August 2009. It’s usually a last minute month when people decide to have a party a matter of weeks in advance. This year we're operating at close to capacity for most August weekends. This is probably because people are simply not planning to go abroad and want to have an event instead.

Whilst parties are downscaling in size people still want to have fun. Although we did a New Year's event for around 600 people in a tented structure at a private house in Oxfordshire, ultimately best bang for buck is going to be the trend for 2009 and sharing the event with family and friends seems to be popular at the moment. The Oasis look can be applied to different degrees – some like a completely themed look, others prefer Oasis to make a small difference to a more traditional or conventional event with our linings and lights only…. From a small company summer drinks party for 60 guests up to a large scale private New Year’s Eve party, and weddings and significant birthday parties in between, we are able to offer something to suit every budget.

We are seeing bookings with less formal catered dining - with more casual buffet style events and chill-out furniture being the preferred option. We sit in a niche supplying particular looks for event interiors but find that our look has broad appeal (e.g. Moroccan, Indian, Bohemian, Oriental, warm winter wedding, colourful summer party, funky green rooms etc.). Providing something different is always important for clients but providing something luxurious-looking for a competitive price with great service is the priority this year.

Where tents are involved, it’s tempting for clients to save money on what are perceived to be added extras like expensive wooden flooring; actually details like this can make or break an event. There’s a skill in helping clients to spend their money wisely inside a tight budget! Generally when choosing a tent supplier a good track record and reliability are invaluable to ensure basics like waterproofness between structures, good heating and sticking to a schedule and enough experience to give the client / organiser excellent advice and recommendations based on the specific site. Oasis prides itself on tailoring quotes to suit the needs of each client, and working with tried and tested industry partners all over the UK, not just on delivering a package.

More clients are asking us to dress alternative venues – we’re doing a lot of work in village halls, warehouses, and “blank canvas” event spaces like Paintworks in Bristol which we transformed for the Hype Agency (see here for our decorations and transformation). Or the Hippodrome in Leicester Square which we worked on for Firehouse Productions in December. They can save on overall cost and can provide clients with additional facilities like built in loos and kitchens.

We’re working on a few new ideas during 2009, both operationally and for some new products. However I think most companies will be holding off new investment to see how the economy shapes up over next few months. For event organisers this will mean working with suppliers to reinvent existing stock for budget-conscious 2009 clients. We have done this with our marquee linings to create a Thai or oriental theme and a Tapas or Spanish theme. Let's just hope the weather improves.

Small Business Week 2008

This will involve training to improve green credentials through achieving Phase 3 of the BS8555 standard in environmental management with a tailored environmental consultation. We'll let you know more as and when.

We hired a plain clearspan marquee and Oasis filled it with colour and stunning, opulent soft furnishings. Our guests couldn't believe it! We separated off part of the the marquee as a bar/chill out area for those who wanted to relax and escape the music in the evening. MicroLoan Foundation: Supporting women in sub-Saharan Africa

One of the charities we have donated to this year is the UK-based charity http://www.microloanfoundation.org.uk/ which provides small loans, business training and continuing guidance to groups of women in sub-Saharan Africa. The MLF lend money to groups of women to help them build sustainable businesses, and by providing meaningful training and ongoing mentoring support.

Oasis was started by our female founder Biny Gregory 13 years ago, so our contribution to the ongoing support of women in business from a part of the world where our tents come from seemed very appropriate.

Summer visitors to London from the Middle East: Laylati at Knightsbridge

During the blistering heat of the Middle Eastern summer there is usually an exodus from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries. Temperatures can reach a sweltering 40 °C over there, enough to have even the most hardened desert-dweller escaping to cooler climes.

Many of the heat exiles come to London for respite and some stay at the Sheraton Hotel in central London where Oasis have recently transformed the terrace to a traditional Arabic themed setting. The inviting space will offer a wide selection of authentic Arabic foods, Arabic coffee and tea. Traditional delicacies will also be available including hummus, moutabel, kubbeh, fatayer and kofta, all created by the hotel's Lebanese chef, and a wide selection of flavoured shisha.

Another very satisfied customer for whom we transformed this enormous space. Rather than hiring a marquee they used an exisiting space which we dressed with our exotic linings for their Arabian nights event. This space comfortably seated 275 people, a dancefloor, bar, charity auction, and chill out area.

We helped to create the beautiful Bollywood backdrop for a lass from Yorkshire's 18th last summer! … in all that 2007 rain.

UAE stages first camel beauty contest

10,000 camels (the ‘ships of the desert’) have been lined up for a beauty parade in the United Arab Emirates!

According to bbc.co.uk, “The United Arab Emirates has held its first national beauty contest for camels with a prize fond of about $27,000 and various trophies for the winners”.

Camels from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia will strut their stuff before a panel of expert judges who will decide which owners should be awarded prize money totalling around 9.5 million dollars. Apparently one hundred cars are also up for grabs!
